About RFP Builder

Organizations seeking public relations counsel may choose from among many qualified public relations firms (also referred to here as “agencies”). Whether looking for an agency of record or a resource for a specific assignment, many clients conduct a formal agency search with a “request for proposal,” or an RFP.

There are different ways to conduct an agency search. Some clients manage the process entirely on their own and others choose to retain a search consultant. Under any circumstances, both clients and participating agencies invest significant time and resources in an agency search. If you are a prospective client, you should be clear in defining the various criteria that the public relations firms need to meet. The firms invited to participate should, after reviewing the RFP, have a clear understanding of the requirements for the search.

The Council of Public Relations Firms (Council) has developed RFP Builder to simplify what can be a complex endeavor and make it easier for clients to design a proposal and conduct an agency search that will yield the results you are seeking. Based on best practices in the public relations industry, the search process and supporting tools in RFP Builder are specially designed to be fair and reasonable to all parties.

RFP Builder is a complement to the Council guide Standards for Conducting a Public Relations Firm Search. Developed with input from a diverse group of advisors including corporate communications officers and procurement specialists, search consultants and public relations agency executives, this guide may be downloaded free by purchasers of RFP Builder.

After you have worked through all the steps on RFP Builder, you will be instructed to download and purchase your finished proposal. The introductory price is $250.
